In a significant move to ensure 100% voter participation, the Election Commission has launched ‘Home Voting’ for citizens aged 85+ and persons with disabilities (PwD).
Starting Monday, polling officials, accompanied by central forces, began visiting the residences of eligible voters in Purulia and Bankura districts.
Purulia Highlights: In Purulia, 5,588 voters from 9 assembly constituencies applied for the home-voting facility, including 4,019 senior citizens. The two-day drive ensures that those who cannot make it to the booths can still exercise their democratic right with full dignity and secrecy.
Bankura Status: Bankura district administration has identified nearly 12,000 such voters. Since Tuesday morning, special teams have been setting up mini-voting compartments inside houses to facilitate ballot voting. The administration aims to complete the entire process by April 16. This initiative by the EC is receiving widespread praise for making the electoral process truly inclusive and accessible.
