The political corridors of West Bengal witnessed a touch of celluloid glamour today as five candidates filed their nominations for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections.
Leading the pack was superstar Koel Mallick, who made her formal entry into electoral politics by filing her papers as a TMC candidate. She was accompanied by her husband, producer Nispal Singh Rane, making a rare public appearance together at the State Assembly.
Apart from Koel, TMC's other nominees-Minister Babul Supriyo, former DGP Rajeev Kumar, and legal luminary Menaka Guruswamy-also submitted their candidatures. From the BJP camp, veteran leader Rahul Sinha filed his nomination. With exactly five candidates for the five vacant seats, the election is likely to be uncontested. Koel, daughter of veteran actor Ranjit Mallick, expressed her gratitude to Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee for this opportunity, stating her commitment to voicing Bengal’s cultural and social issues in the Parliament.
