Tension flared in Hooghly's Bandel area after a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker’s residence and vehicle were allegedly targeted by miscreants in the dead of night.
Pradeep Jha, a resident of the New Masjid locality and a dedicated TMC worker, reported that around 2:00 AM, his family was jolted awake by the sound of shattering glass. Large stones had smashed through his bedroom windows, landing on the bed, while his Scorpio SUV parked outside sustained significant damage.
CCTV footage from the premises revealed two individuals scouting the area before hurling stones and fleeing. Jha identified the attackers as local miscreants affiliated with the BJP, claiming they had been dormant while MLA Asit Mazumdar was active but have resurfaced after he was denied a poll ticket. He further alleged a nexus by sharing photos of the accused with Chinsurah BJP candidate Subir Nag. The BJP has categorically denied the involvement of its cadres, dismissing the incident as a local dispute being politicized by the TMC. Chinsurah police have recovered the CCTV footage and initiated a formal investigation into the matter.
