The bustling crowd at Barrackpore station at 7 PM is no longer a place for nightmares. In a heartwarming real-life incident, a child separated from his mother was tracked within seconds by AI-powered cameras and reunited by RPF personnel before the train could even leave.
This is the new reality of passenger safety at Eastern Railway stations.
Under the Nirbhaya Fund, Eastern Railway has implemented a sophisticated IP-based Video Surveillance System (VSS) featuring 24/7 monitoring and High-Definition imaging. With advanced Facial Recognition technology, 254 stations across Sealdah, Howrah, and Malda divisions are now under constant vigil. Strategic placements at ticket counters, platforms, and parking areas ensure that no corner remains a blind spot for criminals.
Beyond technology, the RPF's ground operations have been equally stellar. Under 'Operation Nanhe Farishte', 1,407 children were rescued from various stations. 'Operation Aahat' successfully saved 124 children from the clutches of human traffickers, leading to 68 arrests. Furthermore, the 'One Station One Product' (OSOP) initiative for acid attack survivors highlights Eastern Railway’s commitment to social inclusion and the dignity of every passenger. From digital surveillance to humanitarian aid, Indian Railways is redefining the commuter experience.
