As West Bengal gears up for the 2026 Assembly Elections, the biggest question in Tollywood is whether superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee will finally take the political plunge.
Rumors about the legendary actor joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reached a fever pitch following a recent meeting with BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar at his residence. Adding fuel to the fire, a social media post allegedly from Prosenjit’s son, Trishanjit, featuring Majumdar with the caption “Jai Shri Ram,” went viral within hours.
The timing of these events is crucial, as Prosenjit was recently honored with the Padma Shri, leading many to believe that a formal political induction was imminent. Speculations suggested that the BJP was keen on fielding the “Mr. Industry” of Tollywood to counter the star power of the TMC. However, Prosenjit Chatterjee has now come forward to clear the air and put an end to the mounting suspense.
“I am an actor by birth and I will die an actor. Politics is not my cup of tea,” Prosenjit stated emphatically. He clarified that the meeting with Sukanta Majumdar was a courtesy call to congratulate him on his national honor and had no political agenda. Regarding the viral post by his son, the actor revealed that it originated from a ‘fake profile’ and that his family is taking legal action against the impersonator. He reiterated that he has no intention of contesting the 2026 elections, remaining focused solely on his cinematic journey.
