It has been five days since Nikita Singhania and three other accused were sent to judicial custody in the Atul Subhash suicide case. The case is now 10 days old, and Bengaluru police are continuously questioning the suspects.
While Bengaluru police are maintaining confidentiality in this case, some details that have come to light indicate that Nikita has stated that she and her family are being falsely implicated in the case. She said, "We never asked Atul for money, rather it was Atul and his family who demanded ₹10,000 as dowry from us."
Nikita further explained, "I have been living separately from Atul for the last three and a half years. If I wanted money from him, I would have stayed with him and kept extracting money. I work and have a good salary. My main need was for maintenance for my child's upbringing. However, due to the home loan, most of my income goes towards that. Only I know how I manage to run the house and take care of my child."
In addition, Nikita accused Atul of having a lavish lifestyle: "Atul had a fondness for indulgence. He had three girlfriends in Bengaluru and spent all his money on them. He would even take my salary. When I asked my mother for money, he would snatch it from her. My in-laws also demanded ₹10 lakh dowry from my father, despite us already giving them ₹5 lakh in cash. We spent ₹50 lakh on our wedding. When my father expressed his inability to provide more, my in-laws threatened divorce. This stress led to my father's death."
Before their arrest, Nikita's mother Nisha and brother Anurag Singhania spoke to the media and denied all the allegations, stating they would now only respond in court.
