The BCCI Annual Awards are back, and 26-year-old batting sensation Shubman Gill is set to be the star of the night. Overpowering icons like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, Gill has been chosen for the prestigious ‘Polly Umrigar’ Award (Cricketer of the Year) for the 2025 season.
He will receive the honor on Sunday, May 15.
The year 2025 has been a milestone for Gill, as he finished as the highest international run-getter with 1,764 runs at an impressive average of 49. His masterclass in Test cricket, especially as captain against England where he amassed 754 runs, cemented his position as the backbone of the team. From delivering in the Champions Trophy to scoring 650 runs in IPL 2025, Gill’s dominance was unparalleled.
The ceremony will also witness legends being honored. Former head coach Rahul Dravid will receive the ‘Colonel C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his immense contribution as a player and the coach who led India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title. Legendary woman cricketer Mithali Raj will also be conferred with the lifetime achievement award, making it a star-studded celebration of Indian cricket’s past and future.
