"Will Break BJP's Neck!" Abhishek's Aggressive Remark Sparks Row; BJP Seeks Election Commission Censure

The BJP has moved the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking a “censure” on the election campaigns of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

The saffron party has accused the duo of inciting violence and violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) through their recent public addresses.

In a formal letter to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, BJP leader Shishir Bajoria highlighted Abhishek Banerjee’s speech in Raina, East Burdwan, where he reportedly said, “BJP's neck will be broken in North Bengal and Jangalmahal.” He further threatened to “break the spine” of the opposition in South 24 Parganas, Howrah, and Hooghly. The BJP contends that such statements are not only inflammatory but also encourage physical violence against political workers. The complaint also included Mamata Banerjee's recent warning in Maynaguri, where she stated that after the polls, BJP workers would have to put up posters declaring they no longer belong to the party. Demanding immediate intervention, the BJP has urged the commission to impose strict restrictions on their public rallies to ensure a peaceful electoral environment.
