Aramco Ventures leads $9.5 Mn funding in climate tech startup Mitti Labs

Climate tech startup Mitti Labs has raised $9.5 million in a funding round led by Aramco Ventures, the venture capital arm of Saudi Aramco.

Existing and new investors, including Lightspeed India, Godrej Industries Group, Cisco Foundation, Francis Family Fund, and Volta Circle, also participated.

The startup had previously raised $3 million.

The fresh funds will be used to expand its presence across India and enter the Philippines and Indonesia, Mitti Labs said in a press release.

Co-founded in 2023 by Devdut Dalal and Xavier Laguarta Soler, Mitti Labs uses satellite imagery and AI to support water efficient farming practices. The company generates carbon credits by verifying emission reductions from these practices and sells them to corporations pursuing net zero emission goals.

Headquartered in Bengaluru and New York, Mitti Labs operates in the AgTech, climate smart agriculture, digital Measurement, Reporting and Verification (dMRV), and carbon credits segments. According to the company, it works with tens of thousands of farmers across multiple Indian states, covering more than 70,000 hectares.

Mitti Labs says its technology can reduce water usage by up to 40% and methane emissions by around 50%. It combines synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite imagery with ground level field measurements to build digital twins of individual rice plots for monitoring and carbon accounting. The company also said its projects in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh received an 'A' rating from carbon credit ratings agency Sylvera.
