The high-stake battle is focused on development and governance versus economic concerns and welfare expansion, with both the parties placing their manifestos at the core of their campaign.
Most of the pollsters predicted a clear win for the BJP-led NDA in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. The surveys suggested that the ruling alliance under Sarma is likely to make a hattrick. Exit polls estimated the NDA could secure around 85 to 100 seats in the 126-member Assembly, pointing to a comfortable majority.
At the same time, the Congress-led alliance was projected to remain behind, with estimates ranging between 24 and 40 seats.
Assam recorded a voter turnout of 85.38 per cent in the April 9 polling, the highest since the state's first election in 1951, signalling strong public participation in what is shaping up to be a closely watched verdict.
