The train was introduced on October 3, 2019, and was flagged off by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the presence of the then Railway Minister Piyush Goyal. The coaches of this train have been indigenously manufactured at the Chennai-based Integral Coach Factory (ICF).

Train number 22440 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra- New Delhi Vande Bharat Express train will depart from Katra at 14:55 hrs instead of 15:00 hrs to reach Jammu Tawi at 16:08 hrs instead of 16:13 hrs. It will depart from Jammu Tawi at 16:10 hrs instead of 16:15 for its onward journey. The timing of this train onward to Jammu Tawi will remain unchanged.
