In a statement, the Ministry of Petroleum announced that 5-kilogram FTL gas cylinders can now be easily procured from LPG distributors merely by showing a valid ID; no proof of address is required for this purpose. This decision by the government comes at a time when migrant workers residing in various parts of the country are being compelled to return to their villages due to a gas crisis.
"The 5 Kg FTL cylinders are available at nearby LPG Distributorships and can be purchased by showing any valid ID proofs. No address proof is required," the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said.
Companies such as Indiane Oil and Bharat Petroleum have also begun implementing this initiative. Under this scheme, customers are being provided with the 'Indane Chhotu' gas cylinder by Indian Oil, and the 'Appu' gas cylinder by Hindustan Petroleum. Meanwhile, Bharat Petroleum -- specifically Bharat Gas is making available a 5-kilogram mini-cylinder.

The 'Chhotu' gas cylinder is available in almost every district across the country. You can purchase it from any authorised Indane distributor, or from sales outlets designated by the distributor -- such as grocery stores, Indian Oil retail outlets, etc. Furthermore, you are not required to pay any security deposit to purchase the 'Chhotu' 5 kg FTL cylinder (Indian Oil Chhotu cylinder).

Meanwhile, Hindustan Petroleum has named its 5 kg gas cylinder 'Appu'. In a recent post, the company announced that the HP Gas Appu is now available without the requirement of an address proof. It is easily portable. Anyone in need of a 5 kg gas cylinder -- specifically the HP Gas Appu -- can contact their nearest distribution center. The company claims that the HP Gas Appu can be made available by HPCL LPG distribution centers within just a few minutes.
Bharat Gas 5kg cylinder details
Bharat Gas -- a division of Bharat Petroleum is also making 5-kilogram mini gas cylinders available to customers.
According to the Ministry, more than 71,000 5kg cylinders were distributed on Friday, April 3, alone.
Since March 23, a total of 5.7 lakh cylinders have been delivered to people. Meanwhile, since March 2026, PNG connections have also been activated in over 3.5 lakh households.
