Motorola Sues Social Platforms, Creators: A fresh controversy surrounding Chinese-owned Motorola and Indian tech influencers has rattled the internet.
The row has flagged issues pertaining to brand image defamation.
The case may signal a broader shift in how brands respond to online criticism in India.
According to International Data Corporation, Motorola counts India as its second-biggest market after the United States, accounting for around 21 per cent of its global smartphone shipments in 2025.
More than 90 per cent of its devices shipped in India were in the sub- USD 250 segment, the IDC data showed.
Why Motorola Sued Social Platforms, Creators?
Motorola has filed a lawsuit against a host of social media platforms and content creators in India over posts it alleges are defamatory, triggering concerns that the move could dampen critical coverage of the company, TechCrunch reported.
The case has been filed before a court in Bengaluru. It names platforms, including X, YouTube and Instagram, along with dozens of content creators, and seeks the removal of content as well as broader curbs on material the company describes as false or defamatory in relation to its devices, as reported.
In its filing spanning over 60 pages, Motorola has sought a permanent injunction to restrain the defendants from publishing or sharing content it considers defamatory, including product reviews, videos, comments and boycott campaigns, as stated.
The complaint references hundreds of posts across platforms, including videos alleging device malfunctions and incidents such as phones catching fire, while also targeting unfavourable product reviews and user commentary that the company claims are false or defamatory, as reported.
Motorola Edge 70 Pro To Be Launched Soon?
Meanwhile, Motorola is gearing up to expand its Edge series in India with the anticipated launch of the Edge 70 Pro. While the company has not confirmed official details, early leaks indicate that the device will focus on camera performance, display quality, and battery capacity.
The Motorola Edge 70 Pro has not been officially announced yet. However, based on recent leaks and Motorola's product cycle, the smartphone is likely to debut in India sometime in 2026. The launch could follow the rollout of other Edge 70 series devices already available in the market.
Expected Price In India
The smartphone is expected to be priced at around Rs 31,999 for the base variant. This would place it slightly above the standard Edge 70, positioning the Pro model as a step-up option with added features.
