EPFO 3.0: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is preparing to significantly enhance member convenience by introducing UPI and ATM-based withdrawals for provident fund (PF) amounts by the end of June 2026.
New App and UPI Integration
According to a report by Moneycontrol, the EPFO will launch a dedicated new mobile application linked directly to subscribers' bank accounts. The app will also integrate with the BHIM app and other UPI platforms, enabling seamless, instant transfers of eligible PF funds.
This development will allow members to access funds more quickly than through the existing UAN portal process.

Three-Day Server Blackout Planned
To implement these upgrades, the EPFO will undertake a "blackout" of its servers for three days in the coming period. During this window, all EPFO operations are expected to halt temporarily as systems are updated to support the new withdrawal features.
"All operations of EPFO will be on halt 3 days, for the servers to update the features, which would allow withdrawal of funds through UPI and ATM," a senior official told Moneycontrol.
Subscribers are advised to plan accordingly and complete any urgent transactions before the maintenance period begins.

What This Means for EPFO Members
Faster Withdrawals: Eligible members will be able to initiate PF withdrawals via UPI directly to linked bank accounts or through compatible ATMs.
Partial Instant Access: Reports indicate subscribers may withdraw up to 75 per cent of their PF balance instantly through the new channels, subject to existing eligibility rules.
No Change in Core Rules: Eligibility criteria, overall withdrawal limits, and tax implications (such as taxation on early withdrawals before five years of service) remain unchanged.
