It was an action-packed double header on Sunday, and away from the high-scoring games, which have been a recurring theme in the ongoing IPL 2026, the bowlers came into the limelight in both games.
In the afternoon, the Kolkata Knight Riders toppled the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Batting first, SRH got bundled out at a meagre total of 165 as spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine spun their web of deception and picked up seven wickets together. Kolkata chased down the total in 18.2 overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi top-scored for them with 59 off 47. Chakravarthy was named the player of the match for finishing with the figures of 3/36 in four overs.
In the second game of the day, table-toppers Punjab Kings had a rare tough outing. Their openers--Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh--have emerged as the biggest strength this season, but on the day, both failed. Subsequently, the entire batting lineup collapsed like a house of cards, but youngster Suryansh Shidge rose to the occasion and smashed a fifty to push PBKS toward a competitive total. They eventually concluded at 163/9 in 20 overs. In reply, the Gujarat Titans approached the chase with caution and rigour. They lost captain Shubman Gill early, but Sai Sudharsan (57 off 41) and Washington Sundar (40* off 23) shone on the day as GT acquired the target with four wickets in hand and one ball to spare. Jason Holder, who bowled a dream spell, picking up four wickets while conceding only 24 runs, was adjudged the player of the match.
