The Income Tax Department of India has launched a platform called 'Kar Saathi', aimed at facilitating an easier tax filing process for individuals.
The Income Tax Department launched this AI-assisted website on April 2, aiming to help taxpayers manage the complexities of income tax regulations more effectively. The new website consolidates all information pertinent to income tax into a single accessible location, enhancing user experience.
Features of the new platform
According to the statement from the department, the platform boasts improved navigation and quicker response times, thereby mitigating confusion often encountered by taxpayers. Many users have found themselves overwhelmed by the myriad of forms and regulations associated with income tax. In a communication on X, the Income Tax Department stated, "The New Income Tax website is here. Simpler to navigate and faster to use. One place to access all income tax-related information. Meet Kar Saathi, your AI companion to help make your direct tax-related journeys easier."
Is it revamped open source code?
Kar Saathi is more than just a general-purpose AI chatbot like ChatGPT and Gemini, since it is positioned to be an intelligent 24×7 virtual assistant designed to answer taxpayer queries in real time. It can help users with:
- Understanding the latest tax rules and provisions
- Guidance on ITR filing procedures
- Explaining forms, deductions, and deadlines
- Resolving common doubts without needing intermediaries
- Providing step-by-step assistance for various tax compliance tasks
The AI chatbot uses advanced natural language processing to deliver accurate, context-aware responses, making it especially helpful for first-time filers and salaried individuals.
PRARAMBH 2026
According to a report from PIB, the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman launched the Income Tax Department's nationwide awareness campaign 'PRARAMBH 2026' on the Income Tax Act, 2025, in New Delhi today. This multimedia initiative, spanning print, radio, television, outdoor, digital, and social media, has been designed to build awareness about the key features of the new Act, which is set to come into effect from 01.04.2026.
The Union Finance Minister noted that CBDT's initiatives, including those under "PRARAMBH," focus on simplifying income tax, with a strong emphasis on taxpayer service. In a first for independent India, both direct and indirect tax systems are being overhauled simultaneously, reflecting a shift toward a more citizen-centric and outreach-oriented administration. Smt. Sitharaman highlighted that the new Act, developed through extensive effort and broad consultation, recasts provisions with greater clarity and aims to reduce disputes, improve compliance, and shift behaviour from confusion and avoidance to acceptance and trust.
