Kevin Warsh has officially taken charge as the 11th Chair of the Federal Reserve, succeeding Jerome Powell after his eight-year tenure.

At 56, Warsh steps into one of the world's most closely watched economic roles, with markets sharply focused on the future path of U.S. interest rates, inflation and growth

US President Donald Trump personally led the swearing-in ceremony at the White House, saying he wanted Warsh to remain "totally independent."

Warsh took office as chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System on May 22, 2026, for a four-year term ending on May 21, 2030.


Warsh also serves as chairman of the Federal Open Market Committee, the Federal Reserve System's principal monetary policymaking body.

As per Fed website, also, he is a member of the Board of Governors, with his term ending on January 31, 2040. He was previously a member of the Board of Governors from 2006 to 2011.

After leaving the Board in 2011, Warsh was the Shepard Family Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Economics at Stanford University's Hoover Institution and a lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He was also a partner at Duquesne Family Office.


Warsh served as special assistant to the president for economic policy and as executive secretary of the National Economic Council from 2002 until 2006. During that time, he was also a member of the President's Working Group on Financial Markets.

From 1995 to 2002, Warsh worked at Morgan Stanley as vice president and executive director.

He was born in April 1970 in Albany, New York. He received an AB from Stanford University in 1992 and a JD from Harvard Law School in 1995.
