LPG prices today, April 3: Domestic LPG cylinder prices remained unchanged on Friday, providing some relief to households amid rising energy costs.
However, commercial LPG cylinders witnessed a sharp jump of Rs 195.50 per cylinder on April 1, driven by higher global crude oil rates and escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Geopolitical risks fuel supply concerns
Heightened tensions between Iran, Israel, and the United States have intensified worries over LPG supplies both in India and globally. Analysts say these developments could exert further pressure on commercial cooking gas prices in the near term.
Government implements supply management measures
To ensure stable domestic availability amid rising demand, the government has taken a series of regulatory steps:
- Urban Areas: The lock-in period for LPG cylinder bookings was extended to 25 days on March 9 to curb excessive consumption.
- Rural Areas: Stricter norms were introduced on March 12, increasing the booking interval to 45 days to ensure fair distribution in villages.
These measures reflect the government's focus on managing limited LPG supplies and preventing hoarding.
March price hike precedes April surge
The April price rise follows an earlier increase in March. In early March, domestic 14.2 kg cylinders were hiked by Rs 60, while commercial 19 kg cylinders saw a Rs 144 increase.

Commercial 19 kg cylinders are highest in Chennai (Rs 2,246.50) and lowest in Mumbai (Rs 2,031), reflecting regional supply-demand dynamics and transport cost differences.
New LPG prices took effect from April 1
Readers should note that the revised LPG cylinder rates came into effect from April 1. Going forward, LPG prices are likely to stay sensitive to events in the Middle East. Any intensification of regional tensions could push prices up and exacerbate supply shortages, while a resolution or easing of conflicts could help stabilise supplies and provide some relief for consumers.
