SBI Credit Card rule changes from April 1: Reward redemption limits, cashback structure revised - Alert for cardholders

SBI Cards and Payment Services has announced a series of changes across several credit card products, with some of the new rules coming into effect from April 1, 2026. The revisions include updates to reward point redemption, cashback benefits, and changes to certain card offerings.

According to the latest notification on the official website, redemption of reward points for statement credit will now be capped at 60,000 points per month starting April 1, 2026. This limit will apply to most eligible credit cards issued by the company. However, a few products - including Air India SBI Signature Card, PhonePe SBI Card PURPLE and PhonePe SBI Card SELECT BLACK, will remain exempt from this cap.

Another change relates to the redemption process itself. From April 1, 2026, cardholders will be able to convert reward points into statement credit only in multiples of 4,000 points. This rule will apply to most cards except the PhonePe SBI Card PURPLE and PhonePe SBI Card SELECT BLACK variants.

The company has also announced revisions to benefits offered under the Cashback SBI Credit Card. The updated benefits structure will take effect from April 1, 2026. Customers can check the complete details of the revised cashback programme on the company's website.

In addition to the upcoming changes, the card issuer has already introduced several updates over the past few months. These include modifications to airport lounge access for select cards from January 10, 2026, and the discontinuation of the OLA Money SBI Credit Card issuance from December 8, 2025.

The company has also started phasing out the Etihad Guest SBI Credit Cards. Existing cardholders will receive a replacement Miles SBI Credit Card or Miles SBI Credit Card Elite, and the older cards will be deactivated either after the new card is activated or by March 31, 2026, whichever happens earlier.

Separately, the issuer has also revised certain fees in recent months, including a 1 per cent charge on education payments made through third-party apps and on wallet load transactions above Rs 1000.

These updates are part of a broader effort by the card issuer to streamline its product offerings and revise reward structures across different credit card categories.
