If you grew up watching Scary Movie and doing that running man dance in your living room, this week just got a little better. Scary Movie 6 has officially moved up its release date.
The film was supposed to hit theatres on June 12, 2026. Now it is coming a full week earlier, June 5, 2026. Not a huge difference on paper, but fans who have been waiting since the last instalment will happily take it.
Marlon Wayans made the announcement himself
No press release. No studio statement. Marlon Wayans just jumped on Instagram and told people directly.
"We coming early! I'm bringing Scary Movie to theatres one week sooner. See you June 5," he wrote, tagging Miramax and Paramount Pictures in the post. Short, simple and exactly the kind of energy you would expect from him.
The Trailer just dropped too
The official trailer landed on March 4, 2026, and the caption alone set the tone perfectly, "We're baaaaaack."
For anyone who grew up watching the original films, seeing the Wayans Brothers back in action after 25 years is a genuinely strange and exciting thing. They were last part of the franchise in Scary Movie 2, which came out in 2001. That is a long gap. A whole generation of moviegoers was not even born yet.

Scary Movie 6 follows two friends who keep finding themselves in the middle of absolute chaos, killers, monsters, supernatural creatures, the whole package. If that sounds familiar, it should. The franchise built its name on taking horror movie tropes and making them as ridiculous as possible, and from the looks of the trailer, nothing has changed.
Who is in it
The cast brings back some genuinely familiar faces. Anna Faris returns, which will mean a lot to fans of the earlier films.
Regina Hall is back too. And of course, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans complete what feels like a proper reunion rather than just a reboot.
Miramax is producing. Paramount Pictures is on board for distribution. So the backing is serious even if the film itself is designed to be anything but.

The earlier instalments, Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 5, are all currently available on Prime Video. Plenty of time to refresh your memory before the sixth one arrives.
