The Special Investigation Team probing the high-profile sexual harassment and alleged forced religious conversion case involving employees of Tata Consultancy Services filed its second chargesheet before a Nashik court on Thursday, keeping the spotlight on one of the most talked-about corporate misconduct cases to emerge from Maharashtra this year.
Second Chargesheet Filed in Nashik Court
The fresh chargesheet was submitted before the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate in Nashik and pertains to eight FIRs registered at the Mumbai Naka police station. The accused named in the chargesheet include Raza Rafiq Memon, Shahrukh Husain Shaukat Qureshi, Ashwini Ashok Chainani, Tausif Bilal Attar, Shafi Bhikan Sheikh, Danish Ejaz Sheikh and Nida Ejaz Khan, among others. The charges have been framed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
First Chargesheet Filed a Week Ago
Thursday's filing follows the SIT's first chargesheet, which was submitted on May 22 in the lone case registered at Deolali Camp police station. That document ran to 1,500 pages and named Danish Ejaz Sheikh, Tausif Bilal Attar, Nida Ejaz Khan and Matin Majid Patel as accused. Charges in that case were filed under both the BNS and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Atrocities Prevention) Act.
What the Allegations Are About
The case traces back to complaints filed by several women employees working at TCS's Nashik unit. The complainants alleged a sustained pattern of exploitation, molestation and mental harassment at the hands of colleagues. More serious among the allegations was the claim that some accused attempted to coerce employees into changing their religious practices, including pressuring them to pray in a particular manner, alter their dietary habits by consuming non-vegetarian food, and adopt religious symbols.
Investigators found that a WhatsApp group was being used as a vehicle for targeting the women, with pressure being applied through the platform to nudge them toward specific religious observances. Some victims stated they were directly coerced into adopting practices that conflicted with their own beliefs and personal choices.
Timeline of the Case
Early 2025: Women employees at the Nashik unit of TCS begin raising complaints internally about workplace harassment and alleged attempts at religious coercion by a group of colleagues.
Mid 2025: The complaints come to the attention of law enforcement after victims approach police. Multiple FIRs are registered at both Mumbai Naka police station and Deolali Camp police station in Nashik.
Late 2025: The Maharashtra government orders the formation of a Special Investigation Team to take over the probe, given the sensitivity of the allegations and the number of accused involved.
May 22, 2026: The SIT submits its first chargesheet, a 1,500-page document, before the court handling the Deolali Camp police station case, naming four accused.
May 29, 2026: The SIT files its second chargesheet covering eight FIRs registered at Mumbai Naka police station, naming several more accused before the additional chief judicial magistrate's court.
AIMIM Corporator Questioned
In a parallel development, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen corporator Mateen Patel was questioned by police on May 25 for approximately nine hours. Patel is accused of sheltering Nida Khan, one of the named accused in the case, while she was allegedly evading arrest. He has been summoned to appear at the police station again on June 1 for further questioning.
Investigation Continues
With two chargesheets now filed within a week of each other, the SIT appears to be moving briskly to bring the accumulated evidence before the court. The case has drawn considerable attention given that it involves a major IT company and touches on issues of workplace safety, religious freedom and the misuse of digital platforms for targeting colleagues. Further developments are expected as the court proceedings get underway.
