ETNow.in 1 week ago

A shocking video circulating on social media shows a man being thrown into the air during a powerful thunderstorm in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday when the man was taking shelter under a tin shed during strong winds and heavy rainfall. The powerful storm allegedly tore off the tin structure, flinging both the shed and the man several feet into the air before he fell to the ground.

The video has triggered concern on social media as severe weather conditions continue to affect several parts of Uttar Pradesh.

104 people lost their lives across UP

Over the past 24 hours, several districts across the state have reported deaths, injuries, livestock losses and damage to homes due to thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds. According to the Uttar Pradesh government, reports of human casualties, livestock deaths and crop damage have emerged from 19 districts, including Barabanki, Bahraich, Kanpur Dehat, Basti, Sambhal, Hardoi and Unnao. Multiple houses were also damaged due to the extreme weather conditions.

At least 104 people have lost their lives across Uttar Pradesh due to thunderstorms and lightning in the last 36 to 48 hours, State Relief Commissioner Harikesh Bhaskar said on Thursday.

Prayagraj was among the worst-affected districts, reporting 21 deaths, followed by Sant Ravidas Nagar with 14 fatalities, Fatehpur with 11 deaths and Mirzapur with 10 casualties. Several other districts, including Unnao, Badaun, Bareilly and Pratapgarh, also reported deaths as intense storms uprooted trees, damaged homes and triggered wall collapses.

The Relief Commissioner said authorities are closely monitoring the situation and that the 24-hour Integrated Control and Command Centre is fully operational.

He added that officials across districts have been directed to conduct field inspections. The Uttar Pradesh government has also announced compensation for affected families, and financial assistance is being provided.

What UP CM Yogi said?

Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed officials to ensure immediate relief for people affected by storm and lightning incidents reported during the past 24 hours.

The Chief Minister directed authorities to immediately visit affected areas, assist victims, ensure prompt compensation disbursal and provide situation updates every three hours. He also instructed all District Magistrates to prioritise relief and rescue operations. In addition, officials were asked to share updates regarding compensation, rescue efforts and other relief measures on social media platforms.

According to an official press release, reports of human casualties, livestock deaths and crop damage have been received from 19 districts, including Barabanki, Bahraich, Kanpur Dehat, Basti, Sambhal, Hardoi and Unnao. The statement further said that 130 animals, including both large and small livestock, had died, while 98 houses were damaged due to the extreme weather conditions. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster.
