Chaitra Navratri 2026 Day 6: The auspicious festival of Chaitra Navratri began this year on March 19th, and today marks its sixth day.
As is the tradition every year, devotees are immersed in the worship and adoration of Goddess Katyayani on this day. Grand decorations featuring flowers and lamps can be witnessed in homes and temples alike. Even young children, joining their mothers in the rituals, are filled with enthusiasm and a desire to receive the Mother Goddess's blessings. Goddess Katyayani is worshipped as the sixth manifestation of Mother Durga.

It is believed that her divine grace grants liberation from fear, sorrow, and disease. Wearing yellow attire is considered auspicious on this day, and devotees offer a ghee lamp, *Roli* (vermilion), *Akshat* (sacred rice grains), and yellow flowers to the Goddess.

The color yellow is extremely dear to Mother Katyayani. It is considered auspicious to perform worship on this day while wearing yellow attire. It is customary to offer honey-or *Kheer* (sweet rice pudding) prepared with honey-as *Bhog* (sacred food offering). Even young children endeavor to seek the Mother's blessings by offering sweets with their own hands.

The Legend of Mother Katyayani
According to the legend, the great sage Maharishi Katyayan undertook rigorous penance; pleased by his asceticism, Mother Jagdamba (the Universal Mother) chose to be born as his daughter. This very daughter later became renowned as Mother Katyayani. It is said that she slew the demon Mahishasura, thereby liberating the gods; for this reason, she is also revered as *Mahishasuramardini* (the Slayer of Mahishasura). Worshipping Mother Katyayani brings happiness, peace, and prosperity to the home. On this day, devotees specifically worship the Mother to seek protection for their families and to invite positive energy into their lives.
