Decoding Isha Ambani's MET Gala 2026 Iconic Look

At the 2026 edition of the Met Gala, all eyes on Isha Ambani as the outfit that she chose blurred the boundaries between fashion and fine art.

She was seen in a sari embracing the evening's theme, Fashion Is Art, through a distinctly Indian lens.

Her appearance was all about thoughtful expression of heritage, artistry and identity, woven into a silhouette that felt both timeless.

Styled under the creative direction of Anaita Shroff Adajania and designed by Gaurav Gupta in collaboration with Swadesh, Isha's ensemble transformed the traditional sari into what could be described as a 'living canvas.'

The drape featured hand-painted and embroidered elements inspired by India's textile traditions, including delicate Pichwai-style motifs rendered in muted gold and earthy hues.

What elevated the piece further was its craftsmanship with custom woven using threads of pure gold by Swadesh artisans, underscoring the richness and precision of Indian handwork.

Beyond its visual impact, the ensemble carried emotional and cultural depth. The blouse, detailed with diamonds and metallic zardozi embroidery, came from the personal collection of Nita Mukesh Ambani, adding a layer of legacy to the overall look.

A historic sarpech once belonging to the Nizam's collection adorned the back, subtly anchoring the outfit in India's royal past while presenting it in a modern, global context.

The sari m was draped by renowned expert Dolly Jain, who made sure that every fold complemented the fluidity of the design.

A striking jasmine-inspired hair sculpture reinterpreted the traditional mogra gajra using unconventional materials like paper, copper and brass. Crafted by artist Sourabh Gupta, the piece took over 150 hours to complete, reflecting meticulous artistry.

Her jewellery, sourced from Lorraine Schwartz and Kantilal Chhotalal allowed the saree and its narrative elements to take centre stage. Hair and makeup, kept minimal and elegant, complemented and competed with the overall idea of her look.

Isha's appearance at the MET Gala 2026 celebrated Indian craftsmanship on one of the world's most influential style platforms.
