For years, there has been an under-the-radar but very influential change in the fashion scene, wherein the emergence of designers from North East India has brought about a new wave of fashion.
Drawing from centuries of history in terms of weaving practices and rich culture, the emergence of these designers has heralded in a new era of fashion, one which focuses on the elements of identity and sustainability, while simultaneouslyremaininginnovative andinspiring at the same time.

1. Hannah Khiangte
Based in Aizawl, Hannah Khiangte is among the most recognizable designers when it comes to fashion from the northeast part of India as she brings identity and history back to Mizo textiles. It all began with her desire to bring puan textiles into modern-day fashion and use their designs for structured outfits. This is best illustrated by her collection named "Are You Gonna Go My Way," which is a combination of culture mixed with punk elements that earn her rightful fame. As an established designer, she has been able to showcase her work on many fashion stages around India while dressing celebrities, and she focuses especially on identity, sustainability, and preserving artistry. 
2. Easternlight Zimik
Founder of the brand name EAST, belongs to the new generation of designers that have taken up the challenge of turning traditional fabrics into a modern day fashion trend. The designer's work has a strong connection with the culture of the Tangkhul community and there lies his dedication towards exploring and reinterpreting their rich culture. Easternlight Zimik has managed to carve out a niche for himself through his effort to make ethnic fabrics more wearable and fashionable. His philosophy includes much more than just designing as he wants to bring out the cultural identity through different means such as designs, clothes, music, or any other form of creative expression. 
3. Atsu Sekhose
Well-known designer hailing from Northeastern India, renowned for his elegance and simplicity in designs. Sekhose is a designer who has worked with many international fashion firms and thus brings the element of sophistication to all his designs, integrating cultural influences with modern global fashion sense. His designs have been exhibited at the well-renowned Lakmé Fashion Week, which testifies to his recognition within both the national and international fashion world. The designs of Sekhose are always characterized by excellent tailoring and minimalistic approach, giving him an air of timeless elegance rather than following any fads. 
4. Daniel Syiem
Daniel Syiem is considered a trailblazer of sustainable fashion luxury in Northeast India. Daniel Syiem is recognized because of his work with the eco-friendly Ryndia or Eri silk of Meghalaya, which is cruelty-free. It is thanks to Syiem that indigenous fabrics have become a part of the mainstream fashion scene. His designs can be characterized by subtle elegance that gives preference to natural textures and a minimalist design over overly decorated garments. And has been exhibited at various fashion shows in recent years, gaining him attention for his environmentally friendly and ethical approach to fashion. Syiem collaborates with local weavers and tries to adapt traditional techniques to the requirements of modern fashion. 
5. Manjushree Saikia
The creator of Ura Maku, Manjushree Saikia, has become famous for the way she uses fabric as the core element when designing her creations. She designs clothes inspired by the Assamese culture through the use of woven materials such as Eri and Muga silk. Manjushree Saikia has received accolades for her dedication to slow and sustainable fashion by always working together with the locals. Her accomplishments are associated with successfully establishing traditional Assamese weaving as part of contemporary fashion. This designer's primary concern is conscious consumption, and that is exactly what she promotes in her work.

6. Reena Ahanthem
A notable fashion designer from Manipur who has established herself in London and designs fusions between indigenous culture and international fashion trends. Reena is the co-founder of 11 Tareng, her mission is to preserve and promote the art of handloom textiles from Manipur using Khurkhul silk and cultural motifs like the phiruk. In her career, she has successfully founded several brands, such as her own label "Ahanthem by Reena," which is well known for its luxurious bridal and evening wear collections, and "Deepankshi & Reena," a popular brand based in Delhi that dresses some of the biggest stars of Indian cinema. Reena has also worked as the creative director for designer Abhinav Mishra.
Her approach to fashion designing is based on slow design principles, and her intention is to make rare weaving techniques sustainable and profitable in the global market.
