Kajol has opened up about breaking her long-standing no-kissing policy on screen after nearly three decades for her OTT series The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha.
The actor, known for maintaining a clear boundary when it came to on-screen intimacy, admitted that the decision did not come easily and was something she grappled with until the last moment.
Speaking about the experience, Kajol said, “I think I was uncomfortable with it. I was very, very uncomfortable with the idea till I was standing on set.” She further shared that while the scene made sense on paper, she remained unsure if she would actually go through with it when the cameras started rolling.
The actor explained that the decision ultimately came down to professionalism and the demands of the character. She acknowledged that the scene was integral to the narrative and emotional arc, making it difficult to remove without affecting the story’s impact.
The Trial, which marked Kajol’s digital debut, features her as Noyonika Sengupta, a housewife-turned-lawyer navigating personal and professional challenges.
The courtroom drama, an Indian adaptation of The Good Wife, required her to explore more layered and complex emotional territory, pushing her beyond previously set boundaries.
Kajol also reflected on how the moment tested her comfort zone, revealing that she even considered backing out at one point. However, she eventually chose to move forward, viewing it as a necessary step for the role rather than a departure from her personal principles.
