Pereira was born in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, on July 7, 1987. At the age of 16, he started his kickboxing training. Quickly, he rose through the ranks and became a highly. - At the age of 12, Pereira quit middle school to start working in a tire business. He started drinking under the influence of his coworkers and eventually developed alcoholism. He started practicing kickboxing in 2009 to overcome his addiction.
- Pereira defeated Yousri Belgaroui for the Glory Kickboxing Middleweight Championship at the 2018 Glory 55 event at Madison Square Garden in New York.
- After four consecutive successful title defenses at Glory in the middleweight division, Pereira moved up to fight Donegi Abena at Glory 68 for the interim Glory Light Heavyweight Championship. Pereira won the fight by third-round knockout and became the first double champion in Glory history.
- Pereira signed with the UFC on September 3, 2021. He made his promotional debut on November 6, 2021, at UFC 268 against Andreas Michailidis. He won the fight by technical knockout in the second round and was awarded the Performance of the Night award.
- Pereira fought Israel Adesanya for the UFCmiddleweight championship at UFC 281 on November 12, 2022. He won the fight by technical knockout in the fifth round. This victory earned him the Performance of the Night award.
- On April 8, 2023, at UFC 287, Pereira and Adesanya squared off once more for the middleweight title of the UFC. He was knocked out in the last second of the round and lost the bout.
After losing to Adesanya, Pereira will move to light heavyweight and challenge former champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291. With a win over Blachowicz, Pereira can secure a shot at the vacant light heavyweight gold.
