Andy Roddick Lashes Out at Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in Expletive-Filled Rant for Saying Man Should've Umpired His Roland Garros Match

Andy Roddick Lashes Out at Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in Expletive-Filled Rant for Saying Man Should've Umpired His Roland Garros Match

Adolfo Daniel Vallejo drew backlash all thanks to his comment on a female umpire during the French Open. In a tense second-round match against home favorite Moise Kouame , Vallejo was greatly frustrated with the crowd.

He did not like how much time his opponent was given between points. Players are allowed 25 seconds between points, and if they don't get ready to play, they are given a time violation warning. But the umpires can decide when to start the countdown due to external disturbances such as the crowd noise.

Vallejo, after his five-set exit, told Clay that the male umpires officiate much better in certain situations, such as handling the crowd. According to Vallejo, 'this sort of match should be umpired by a man,' and that it's 'very difficult for a woman to do it because the crowd is very annoying and you need to have a lot of courage to go against the crowd.'

And as expected, his remarks have made global headlines. Roland Garros took action by imposing a 'significant' fine, condemning his 'sexist' remarks. And now Andy Roddick gave his reaction to the controversy on his Served podcast.

Don't get me f****** started on that a**hole. Vallejo said a man should be refereeing his match. Is there any irony in the fact that a woman was umpiring the match, and he said to control the crowd, there needs to be a man up there? Which I found ironic because the guy that he lost to isn't technically a man yet, he's 17. Just imagine if you had been playing a man, how badly it would have gone for you? F*** off.

In the third round, the teenager lost to Alejandro Tabilo in four sets. It was the first time Kouame played in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament.

I can fight the premise of even thinking that, and then there's another level of anger, but for someone being so f****** stupid to say it out loud. Whatever. I hope he gets bad line calls…from guys.

Andy Roddick added

Vallejo also played in a Grand Slam main draw for the first time in his career. His run at the Australian Open ended after he lost his third qualifying match.

On Monday (June 1), Aryna Sabalenka will lock horns with fellow four-time Grand Slam singles champion Naomi Osaka in the quarterfinals of the French Open. Prior to setting up her career's fourth match against the Belarusian ace, Osaka overcame teenager Iva Jovic in three sets.

Jovic, who made the quarterfinals at the Australian Open (lost to Sabalenka), currently stands in the 17th spot on the rankings table. Roddick is convinced the 18-year-old has all the talent to become a top 5 player.

But yeah, listen, Jovic is amazing. I think she's a top-five player at some point, like, very, very soon. And the people who have been able to play really big, whether it's Sabalenka in Australia, whether it's Osaka here, you know, I think she has some catching up to do, physically, to kind of handle the power of these big hitters.

Andy Roddick said at the press conference

Jovic has already played two finals, winning the Guadalajara Open last year and losing this year's Hobart International. Osaka, however, has yet to win a title since clinching the 2021 Australian Open.

Sabalenka is chasing her fourth title of the season in Paris. She won in Brisbane, lost in Melbourne, and later completed the Sunshine Double. The 28-year-old finished as the runner-up in last year's French Open, losing to Coco Gauff.
