Caitlin Clark and Twin Sonia Citron Notch Records In Overtime Thriller

Caitlin Clark and Twin Sonia Citron Notch Records In Overtime Thriller

First Sportz 6 days ago

Ever since Sonia Citron came into the WNBA via the 2025 Draft, fans have been comparing her looks to Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark .

According to them, the two have similar facial features. Along with their similar hairstyles, the two can be mistaken for each other, especially when someone is not overtly familiar with them.

The two have played alongside each other for USA Basketball back when they were teenagers, and that is as far as the similarities go.

Clark was a blue-chip superstar in college, and Citron dropped behind the shadows of the Hannah Hidalgo's and the Olivia Miles' at Notre Dame.

But now, in the professional league, the New York native has come alive. She has become the Washington Mystics' most important player, even though they paid Shakira Austin more than a million dollars to stay in free agency.

It was time for the two so-called twins to play against each other for the first time this season. Unexpectedly, it became another instance where someone could claim that the two are almost at the same level, basketball-wise.

Caitlin Clark started slow, but picked up her shooting efficiency later in the game to end up with 32 points. Sonia Citron had a great game from start to finish, finishing with 30 points.

By doing that, the latter notched a new career high, and the Fever point guard managed to set another WNBA record as the first player to register 75+ points and 20+ assists in the first three games of the season.

The game was a back-and-forth affair with both teams feeling good about their chances of victory. The Washington Mystics, more so, as they were comfortable behind their core, led by Sonia Citron.

The Indiana Fever, on the other hand, were struggling early on when their point guard and Kelsey Mitchell struggled to score efficiently. Even the richest contract holder of the league, Aliyah Boston, was not herself.

Still, the home team rallied behind their leading superstar's late three-point surge to get back to within striking distance. With just 5.1 seconds to go, with the Fever down three points, they drew up a play where Sophie Cunningham threw a lob to Myisha Hines-Allen.

Then, as soon as the latter got a hold of her position, Caitlin Clark arrived after streaking past Citron around the perimeter. She caught MHA's hockey assist and launched a three-pointer that touched nothing but net.

That was the Iowa native proving just how clutch she can be. The score was now tied with just 2.3 seconds remaining, but the Mystics weren't done.

After receiving the inbounds pass, Citron dribbled past her 'twin' and heaved a shot from inside their half. It, too, touched nothing but net. That should have been the game-winner, but officials ruled it out, as the All-Star could not get the shot off before time expired.

Caitlin Clark was visibly excited after she shot the game-tying three-pointer. But when reporters asked about it after the game, she pointed out how her team should not have been in that position.

If we don't have three clunky quarters, we don't force ourselves into basketball heroics. We don't want to play that way. I know it's exciting for the crowd, but we should have had ourselves in position, especially in the first quarter, to control this ball game, and we really didn't.

Caitlin Clark said

The two-time All-Star was happy to have broken through her year-long hesitation to shoot three-pointers consistently. But at the same time, she wished she and her teammates had scored efficiently earlier in the game. That way, they could have avoided another loss.
