At the press conference later, the 2021 US Open champion was asked whether he agreed with Novak Djokovic's opinion that the packed schedule of Masters 1000s and Grand Slam tournaments is tiring out players. Medvedev, a fan of the longer Masters 1000s, said he is 'somewhere in between'.

Although he understands that the calendar is too long, he doesn't think there is a correlation with injuries. Medvedev also has a solution to the long calendar. He believes players should prioritize the Masters 1000s, but the point system can blur the difference.

Because what happens is you win two 500 events, and let's say maybe Hamburg, which I love actually the tournament, but if you look at the draw, it is not the biggest draw, it is not a Masters 1000, you win two like this, the same points as winning, like, Indian Wells or something, it's not exactly right, in my opinion.

The 30-year-old has so far played 11 Masters 1000 finals, winning six and losing five. He last won a Masters 1000 title at the 2023 Italian Open (also his career's first title on clay). This year, he made the final of the Indian Wells Masters but lost the title to World No.1 Jannik Sinner.

So maybe there is some room to move there, where Masters should be like really, really big tournaments where you go full, and then you kind of maybe don't have to, if you play them well, play other tournaments. If you don't play them well, then you have time, and you can play other tournaments.

Medvedev will face Brandon Nakashima or Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round. A two-time semifinalist in the grass-court Major, Medvedev has so far played four finals on the surface, winning one title.

Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev belong to the same generation of players, and both are Grand Slam winners. At the French Open this year, Sascha overcame Flavio Cobolli in five sets to win his career's first Major after three successful attempts in the final.

Medvedev was asked in the press conference whether Zverev's Roland Garros win makes him believe he can still win another Grand Slam title amid the duopoly of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Sascha winning, it didn't change my belief in it. But I'm happy that one more player of our — actually, Dominic [Thiem], even if he's not exactly this generation, but also won one — can be considered three. Maybe we can push for more a bit. And for sure, Carlos out makes a big difference. Jannik is still there. He's winning a lot of matches. If something exterior, like in Roland Garros, didn't hit him.

Alcaraz is not competing at Wimbledon (he reached the final in the previous three seasons) because of a wrist injury. He also did not play at the French Open.

Sinner's second-round exit and Alcaraz's absence saw Zverev break their dominance as the World No.1 and the World No.2 won every Major since 2024 until this French Open. Sinner is competing at Wimbledon as the defending champion.

After surviving a scare in the first round, the four-time Grand Slam champion overcame Nuno Borges to schedule his third-round match against Jenson Brooksby. Sinner will face Medvedev if they both reach the quarterfinals.
