The New York Yankees were on the losing end once again on Thursday. The team lost 2-1 in extra innings against the Chicago White Sox after Fernando Cruz gave up a bases-loaded walk.
Manager Aaron Boone snapped at the team's failure and claimed that they needed to score a 'point.'
The American League East side came into this game on the back of a 6-5 extra-innings loss against the White Sox on Wednesday. While leading 5-4 in that game in the 11th inning, they botched a pick-off move as catcher Ali Sanchez made a throwing error, allowing Munetaka Murakami to score from third base.
The White Sox ended up winning the game in the 12th inning and picked up a huge win. A day later, the Yankees were once again leading in extra innings.
After the game remained 0-0 through 9 innings, the Bronx Bombers took the lead in the 10th inning through a single from Trent Grisham. In the bottom of the inning, Andrew Benintendi hit a single and tied the game at 1-1.
Cruz later came into the game and replaced Angel Chivilli. In the bottom of the 11th inning, he found himself in trouble as the White Sox loaded up the bases.
The relief pitcher gave up a 4-pitch walk to Tristan Peters that ended the game. This was the 1st time in Yankees franchise history that they had lost back-to-back games after leading in extra innings in both games.
While Cruz got credited with the loss, Aaron Boone blamed the offense of the team. He expressed that the team needed to score runs to have a chance of winning the games.
The pitchers again did their job. The bullpen was good, including Cruz. We've got to score. That's the story, the beginning and end of it. We've got to find a way.
