LeBron James' 'Exhausting' Playoff Burden Sparks Paul Pierce's Retirement Plea

First Sportz 0 months ago

Over the past several months, most of the noise surrounding LeBron James was how he was a misfit on a Los Angeles Lakers team that had shifted its focus to build around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves .

There were many who felt that at age 41, he did not have the energy or intensity to help the team on both offense and defense.

Then, some felt that the four-time champion's presence was not allowing the role players to bring their best effort onto the floor. The logic was that they were deferring to James, as has been the case for the entire time he has been with the Lakers.

Times have changed, and in a matter of a couple of days, the league's oldest player is back leading the franchise he helped rise from the ashes.

With both Doncic and Reaves out injured, at least until the end of the regular season, the onus has fallen on LeBron James to lead them. That is something his former rival believes will exhaust him.

This is demoralizing… It's the end of the season, you gearing up for a playoff run… And then you go down your other two best players. It's mentally draining… It's so draining on me mentally for him that I would really seriously contemplate retirement…. I can't come back and go through this another year with the Lakers.

The former Boston Celtics star reiterated to his No Fouls Given colleagues that he hopes his former rival understands how tough this is and decides to end his career.

Even though some die-hard LeBron James fans might take Paul Pierce's suggestion with a pinch of salt, the former NBA champion had a reason behind his 'plea' to someone he spent a significant part of his career battling against.

Now he's going to be in his last few games, he's going to be playing all these minutes, then he's going to be playing heavy minutes in the playoffs. It's just, you know what? I've done enough for this league, guys.

The 48-year-old was indicating that even if Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves came back from their injuries, their veteran teammate would be too exhausted playing all these minutes. Therefore, a first-round heartbreak is inevitable. After giving so much to the league, Pierce believes those setbacks will start to weigh on LeBron James, and that could tilt him towards leaving the game for good.

The Celtics great understands that the Akron native still has a couple of good years in him. However, these setbacks are going to exhaust him.

While LeBron James' return as the most important superstar for the Los Angeles Lakers has become the primary storyline, some believe he is better off without wearing the purple and gold.

He's gonna have a decision to make… In the event that you are contemplating making that decision, it comes down to the belief that you have in who you are with Luka and AR in the lineup, compared to what you could have back in Cleveland.

The longtime analyst understands that it is difficult to leave the glitz and glamor of Los Angeles. However, he felt that James could, for basketball needs, move back home to Cleveland and have a better shot at winning a title there.

With the likes of James Harden, Donovan Mitchell, and others, Stephen A. Smith believes that the four-time league MVP will be better set up to win title no. 5.
