Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant's bizarre toss interaction with West Indies great Ian Bishop has now become a talking point. Pant made an awkward blunder when the presenter asked him about the changes to his playing XI for the game against the Rajasthan Royals.
The 2026 IPL season has not gone LSG's way, with the team currently at the bottom of the standings with just 4 wins out of the 13 matches they have played so far. Much of the Super Giants' struggles have been attributed to poor squad selection, Pant's struggles both as a batter and a leader, and unexpected slumps from star players like Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni.
Despite the team's ongoing challenges, the LSG players, including captain Pant, maintained a positive attitude. During a pre-match interaction with Ian Bishop in Jaipur, Pant made a 'slip-of-tongue' error during the toss interview with the former West Indies cricketer-turned-commentator.
This interaction took place before LSG's match against Rajasthan Royals, immediately after Bishop had finished interviewing RR's stand-in skipper, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had chosen to field after winning the toss.
The wicket-keeper batter then stepped forward and was questioned about Lucknow's team changes for their penultimate game of the season. Rishabh Pant confirmed that Mohammed Shami had been left out of the playing XI and replaced by Mohsin Khan.
Bishop predictably sought further details on whether Shami's absence was due to injury or a tactical decision. However, the 28-year-old failed to comprehend the question, resulting in Bishop repeatedly asking for clarification while Pant kept misunderstanding.
A puzzled Pant assumed that he was being asked about who was replacing Shami, to which he stated that Khan would be the incoming player. Bishop reiterated his question about the veteran pacer's issue, only for Pant to misunderstand again and address the team's second change: Ayush Badoni replacing Aiden Markram.
It left the former West Indies cricketer amused, and he eventually wrapped up the exchange, realizing he was not going to get an answer.
[Ian] Bishop: What's the issue with [Mohammed] Shami?
[Ian] Bishop: What's the issue with [Mohammed] Shami?
[Rishabh] Pant: Yeah?
[Rishabh] Pant: Yeah?
Bishop: What's the issue?
Bishop: What's the issue?
Pant: Mohsin [Khan]
Pant: Mohsin [Khan]
Bishop: Who's out?
Bishop: Who's out?
Pant: Shami's out. Mohsin is in.
Pant: Shami's out. Mohsin is in.
Bishop: Right. So I'm asking…
Bishop: Right. So I'm asking…
Pant: And Aiden [Markram] is… [Ayush] Badoni comes in for him.
Bishop: Alright, we can leave that there for the moment. Thank you very much for your time.
Pant: Thank you.
Pant: Thank you.
Fans were left questioning if the LSG captain was struggling with the intense pressure of the IPL, given his blank expression. Subsequently, the wicket-keeper was involved in a controversial moment when he used the F-word to defend his teammates after the loss.
Team India star and LSG skipper Rishabh Pant experienced a 'brain-fade' moment during the toss of the team's IPL 2026 clash against RR. The Super Giants went on to lose the match, as the Royals chased down their 221-run target in 19.1 overs, with seven wickets in hand.
Pant was involved in the moment with toss presenter Ian Bishop, who kept questioning the wicket-keeper about the changes in LSG's playing XI, only to get a sequence of unresponsive answers from him. It was a total breakdown of communication between the two, which ultimately led to some fans suggesting that the 28-year-old might have 'lost' his mind after having failed to lead LSG to the playoffs.
A few others hilariously suggested that the 'brain-fade' moment occurred as Rishabh Pant fears that he might be removed as Lucknow captain next summer. Some fans, however, felt that Bishop was querying too much about the changes, comparing it to an 'interrogation'. Several fans tried to grasp the humorous side of the interaction, suggesting that the Pant's poor run of form has even left his mind 'buffering'.
During the match, Rishabh Pant contributed with a brisk 35 off 23 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes, before being run out. However, RR chased down the target set by LSG with ease, thanks to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's blistering 93 and Dhruv Jurel's 53*.
