"The best there was." Jake Paul retires from influencer boxing in a bombshell announcement from MVP

"The best there was." Jake Paul retires from influencer boxing in a bombshell announcement from MVP

First Sportz 1 year ago

Jake Paul, the influencer, is retired. But Jake Paul the professional boxer is about to enter his prime. 'Problem Child' is more than ever problematic after his beatdown over Mike Tyson . 'Iron' Mike also made it worse, asking The Department of Licensing and Regulation to bill it as a pro bout.

Paul enters the pro scene again with the biggest of bangs. In light of this, MVP promotions declared he is out of the influencer game.

Jake Paul vs. Tyson headlined MVP's Netflix boxing event from the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium. The Youtuber-turned-prizefighter carried a rather immobile Mike Tyson en route to a lopsided beatdown (80-72, 79-73, 79-73). Notwithstanding the moral repercussions, Paul is now 11-1 with 7 KOs. With him advancing to a potential pay-per-view (PPV) fight opposite IBF, WBC, and WBO super middleweight champ Canelo Alvarez, his influencer boxing days are done.

Flashback Friday to when Jake Paul was an influencer boxer. 2 fights, 2-0, 2KOs. The best there was, is and ever will be. Jake Paul is RETIRED from that sport. They need him, he doesn't need them…hence why they said his name 400 times this past week.
Gib is the current best in that sport.

Paul made his professional debut by stopping another popular streamerAnEsonGib. 'El Gallo' then returned to the sweet science to knock out NBA star Nate Robinson and went on an all-time high. The YouTube star's only defeat as a pro came at the hands of Tommy Fury, last year. MVP also billed Gib as their new media brand face for influencer boxing and roost-header for 'MVP prospects'.

Controversial or not, Paul is the 'it' man of crossover boxing cultures. He now even touts one over Mike Tyson, the once-WBA, WBC, and IBF beltholder and consensus mainstream Heavyweight legend. No word yet on when or where Paul will make his boxing return. However, 'El Gallo' is being challenged by some of the biggest names in the sport, including Ryan Garcia and Gervonta 'Tank' Davis. Will the Alvarez fight happen though?

Canelo Alvarez says he will accept a fight with Jake Paul on only one condition

The Problem Child' had been making waves in boxing for a number of years. But his running reached new heights during his fight with Mike Tyson. Although the bout failed to deliver, it generated a lot of attention - so much so that it broke the record for the biggest gate in combat sports history outside of Las Vegas. Per reports from ESPN (ESPN News Services), it streamed to 60 million households!

Throughout his rise, Jake Paul has argued why Canelo Alvarez should fight him, and he may get his wish. However, there's a precursor to that becoming true.

[Would I fight Jake Paul?] When I'm done with boxing, why not? …Maybe, maybe I'll do it…Yeah [when I'm done]. I think it's good because what happens is there are other people who never watch boxing or they don't know anything about boxing. They want to watch Jake Paul because he brings fans from another world, right? That's good because everybody enjoy it.

Alvarez has been welcoming new influencer boxers to the sport. He also lauds the ingenuity of the Jake Paul - Tyson - Netflix trifecta that shattered records. However, he draws the line somewhere, saying it's not real, mainstream boxing.

Hence, that is the big 'if' he provides. He'll fight Paul one day, but only when he has finished competing with mainstream boxing. His reasoning - Paul's fandom brings in more eyes that are not regulars to the sport. However, in mainstream boxing, Alvarez is already as big as it gets.
