"This Guy is Delusional" - Jalen Williams Claiming Spurs Won Because He Didn't Play in Game 7 Doesn't Sit Well With Fans

"This Guy is Delusional" - Jalen Williams Claiming Spurs Won Because He Didn't Play in Game 7 Doesn't Sit Well With Fans

It is unfortunate that Jalen Williams was not able to contribute as much as he would have wanted for the Oklahoma City Thunder. After playing in Game 1, Williams hurt his hamstring once again at the start of Game 2. He did try to take to court in Game 6, but he re-injured himself and ended up missing Game 7.

There was a lot of hype and expectations from the matchup between two of the best sides in the Western Conference. In the end, the Thunder suffered a 111-103 defeat to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 at the Paycom Center. It was the only series to go to seven games in the West this year.

After the game, Williams was asked how much of a difference he could have made if he played in the series.

I don't do the hypothetical thing too much because it does not solve anything that's going on right now. Obviously, I think I could have made an impact. I think we could have won if I played. Went to 7 with them without me playing. I don't think I make us worse. But they're a good team. It would have been a challenge if I played or not, but I definitely think I could have changed the series.

Jalen Williams has struggled with injuries throughout the 2025 -26 campaign. He signed a five-year contract extension last year during the offseason as he helped the Thunder win their first ever NBA championship.

Unfortunately, he was restricted to just 33 appearances in the regular season. He was expected to be fit and healthy for the playoffs but he was able to play his regular minutes for just three games.

It is possible that the results could have gone the other way if Williams was fit for the entire Western Conference Finals. He played an instrumental role last year as he played second fiddle to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander during their championship run. His performances earned him comparisons to Scottie Pippen.

There are no 'ifs' in sports, hence, nobody will ever know what would have happened if Jalen Williams was out on the court against the Spurs. The 25-year-old may have made the difference as he is a solid two-way player and could have made an impact on both ends of the court.

Following his statements, fans were caught buzzing across social media.

Fans were calling out the Thunder star for his comments. Many brought up the last year's NBA Finals when Tyrese Haliburton got injured in Game 7 and could not help his team against the Thunder. Unfortunately, injuries are a part of sports.

The Thunder picked up where they left off from last season. They were undoubtedly the best team in the league in the regular season as they finished at the top with a 64-18 record. However, they did struggle with injuries throughout the season.

Jalen Williams praised his team for how they performed this season despite battling several injuries.

I don't know if many teams can be as injured as we were and do what we just did. That's a huge testament to the team. The amount of injuries we had throughout the year like during pivotal moments for us to step up, being number one and obviously getting to the Western Conference Finals.

Williams will be looking to have a much healthier season when the 2026-27 campaign gets underway. He will be disappointed that he could not help his team to a second consecutive championship.
