Paul Heyman is insisting that Brock Lesnar's WWE retirement genuinely surprised him. In a new interview, the longtime WWE manager addressed Lesnar's shocking retirement following WrestleMania, saying he had absolutely no clue "The Beast Incarnate" was planning to walk away from wrestling.
Lesnar officially retired after losing to Oba Femi at WrestleMania in Las Vegas, ending one of the most dominant runs in WWE history. The moment became even more emotional when Lesnar removed his gloves and boots inside the ring while embracing Heyman.
Now, Heyman says his reaction that night was completely real.
"If I knew he was gonna retire, would I have gone on record saying he was gonna dominate for the next 15 years?" Heyman said while discussing the moment.
The WWE Hall of Famer explained that he was genuinely emotional during Lesnar's farewell and pushed back at suggestions that the retirement was planned far in advance behind the scenes.
