PANAJI: In the fourth round matches of the Goa Premier Division League organised by the Goa Cricket Association, Chowgule Sports Club recorded a commanding innings victory over Panjim Gymkhana, while the clashes involving Salgaocar Cricket Club and Dempo Cricket Club remain firmly in their control heading into the next day.
At Chicalim, Panjim Gymkhana struggled after opting to bat first and were bowled out for just 101 runs. Shubham Desai led the bowling attack with a remarkable spell, dismantling the batting line up. Shadab Khan fought a lone battle with 45 runs, while Dishank Prabhu Misquin added 16. Desai finished with seven wickets to put Chowgule firmly on top.
In reply, Chowgule Sports Club compiled 213 runs to take a strong first innings lead. Madhur scored 42, Felix Alemao added 37 and Shubham Tari contributed 36. For Panjim Gymkhana, Mohit Redkar claimed six wickets but could not prevent the opposition from gaining a substantial advantage.
Panjim Gymkhana's batting collapsed again in the second innings as they were dismissed for only 56 runs. Darshan Misal picked up six wickets while Shubham Desai claimed four more to seal an innings and 56 run victory for Chowgule. Desai, who took 11 wickets in the match, was named Player of the Match.
At the GCA Academy Ground, Margao Cricket Club posted 293 in their first innings. Deepraj Gaonkar top scored with 81, while Umang Gosavi made 71 and Aryan Narvekar added 39. For Salgaocar, Ruthvik Naik took six wickets.
Salgaocar Cricket Club replied with 216 runs, with Yogesh Kauthankar scoring 56 and Shaantanu Nevagi adding 36. Rudresh Sharma claimed five wickets to give Margao CC a first innings lead of 77 runs. However, Salgaocar bounced back strongly by bowling out Margao CC for 119 in the second innings. Devankumar Chittem scored 65 but Yash Kasvankar starred with a seven wicket haul. At stumps, Salgaocar were 59 for three, needing another 138 runs to win.
Meanwhile at the NAPEX Ground, Geno Sports Club were bowled out for 121 in their first innings, with Manthan Khutkar scoring 29. Dempo Cricket Club responded strongly with a total of 351, powered by Rahul Mehta's 89, Sarthak Bhike's 54 and Snehal Kauthankar's 46.
In the second innings, Geno Sports Club were struggling at 123 for five. Manthan Khutkar remained unbeaten on 60 while Nihal Surlakar contributed 22. Despite their resistance, Geno still trail by 107 runs, leaving Dempo Cricket Club firmly in control of the contest.
