The data translates to an average of 194 biryani orders per minute, or 3.25 orders every second. Chicken biryani accounted for 57.7 million of these orders and recorded the highest number of repeat orders within its category. While biryani led overall consumption, burgers and pizzas followed closely with 44.2 million and 40.1 million orders respectively.
The report also highlighted the continued popularity of traditional food. Veg dosa recorded 26.2 million orders in 2025, maintaining its position as one of the most consumed items nationwide. High-protein food options crossed 23 million orders, with Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad leading demand in this segment.
City-wise data from 2024 showed Hyderabad at the top of biryani consumption with 9.7 million orders, followed by Bengaluru at 7.7 million and Chennai at 4.6 million. The platform recorded nearly 6 million biryani orders during Ramadan alone, underlining the dish’s cultural significance.
Swiggy also observed a shift in food ordering behaviour, noting that deliveries were increasingly treated as a routine activity rather than an occasional indulgence. The peak snacking window was identified between 3 PM and 7 PM, during which chicken burgers led with 6.3 million orders. Chicken rolls showed growth, rising to 4.1 million orders in 2025 from 2.48 million in 2024.
Dessert consumption remained steady, with white chocolate cake leading at 6.9 million orders, followed by chocolate cake and gulab jamun. Traditional sweets such as kaju barfi and besan ladoo also saw significant demand. International cuisines including Mexican, Tibetan and Korean foods recorded steady growth, while regional Indian cuisines such as Pahadi, Malabari and Rajasthani showed sharp year-on-year increases.
Meanwhile, late-night ordering between midnight and 2 AM continued to rise, with chicken burgers topping the list and biryani ranking second. Breakfast trends showed idlis as the most ordered item with 11 million deliveries. The report also noted sharp spikes during festivals and recorded extreme individual ordering patterns, reflecting evolving consumption habits across India.
