GUWAHATI: Akasa Air will impose a fuel surcharge of ₹199 to ₹1,300 per sector on all domestic and international flights booked from 00:01 hrs on March 15, following a significant increase in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices due to geopolitical developments in the Middle East.

Tickets booked before this time will not be affected.

The surcharge will vary depending on the duration of each flight. Fuel costs constitute a major portion of airline operating expenses, and the increase is expected to affect operations across the aviation sector. Akasa Air said it remains committed to offering affordable fares, reliable operations, and efficient customer service, and will periodically review the surcharge based on market conditions.

The decision comes after larger Indian carriers, including IndiGo and Air India Group, introduced similar fuel surcharges. IndiGo announced an additional charge of ₹425 to ₹2,300 on new bookings from March 14, citing an over 85% rise in regional jet fuel prices. Air India Group had earlier implemented a surcharge ranging from ₹399 to USD 200, warning that some services could face cancellations without the measure.
