GUWAHATI: Assam secured a place on the global stage in early childhood education as educator Manobi Deka took part in the World Forum for Early Years, held from April 14 to 17 at Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

The event brought together more than 650 delegates from 50 countries, serving as a platform for exchanging ideas on teaching practices, innovation, and the evolving landscape of early years education. India was represented by a 34-member delegation led by early education expert Swati Popat Vats.
During the opening ceremony, Deka presented a traditional Assamese gamusa to Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, the Crown Prince of Selangor, in a gesture that highlighted the cultural heritage of Assam before an international audience.
She also contributed to the cultural segment of the forum, performing the traditional Bihu dance during the closing ceremony programme titled “Taal Se Taal Mila.” The performance coincided with the Bihu festival, adding cultural significance to the occasion and showcasing Assam’s traditions on a global platform.

The forum saw active participation from Indian delegates in discussions on pedagogy, technology, and collaborative approaches in early education, underlining the country’s growing role in shaping global discourse in this sector.
The event reflected a blend of academic engagement and cultural representation, emphasizing the importance of integrating local traditions within global educational spaces.
