GUWAHATI: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Deputy Speaker Bijit Gwra Narzary was found dead at his residence in South Kumarikata, Tamulpur district, on Wednesday evening, sending shockwaves across the BTC region and the wider state.

Narzary, a senior BJP leader, had represented the Darrangajuli constituency as a Member of the Council Legislative Assembly for four consecutive terms and was serving as Deputy Speaker of the BTC at the time of his death.
His mortal remains were brought to the BTC Secretariat in Kokrajhar on Thursday morning, where people gathered in large numbers to pay their tributes.
BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary paid floral tributes and expressed deep grief, calling Narzary's passing an irreparable loss to the community and public life, and extending condolences to his bereaved family, friends, colleagues and well-wishers.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also condoled the death, describing his sudden demise as a great loss to public life. Assam Minister Biswajit Daimary said the Tamulpur and entire BTC area have lost a strong and efficient leader.
Superintendent of Police of Tamulpur districts while talking to media said that Police received the information at around 7:45 in the evening and Narzary was found hanging in his residence. Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of his death, other details will be clear after the investigation; he added.
