The apology by PVR INOX, released on March 19, comes after the film’s preview screenings witnessed unexpected disruptions just hours before its theatrical rollout. Several paid preview shows scheduled for March 18 were reportedly cancelled across parts of India due to an alleged technical glitch.
As audiences arrived at theatres, social media was flooded with reports of cancellations and delays, reportedly linked to issues in the delivery of the film’s digital content to cinemas. The disruption impacted multiple cities, including Guwahati, where screenings at a PVR outlet inside City Centre Mall and an INOX property were affected.
In Guwahati, a 5:30 PM show was delayed by around 30 minutes, starting close to 6 PM. While the film played smoothly until the interval at approximately 7:50 PM, the second half could not be screened. Around 9:10 PM, theatre authorities informed audiences that the remaining portion could not be played due to a technical issue, and refunds were announced.
Similar issues were reported in cities like Pune, Chennai, and parts of Gujarat, where shows were delayed, cancelled, or disrupted. In some cases, audiences were informed in advance, while others experienced delays exceeding an hour.
Earlier on March 18, Director Aditya Dhar took to his X account to address the issue and apologised to fans and viewers for the inconvenience.
In its statement, PVR INOX acknowledged the inconvenience caused and clarified that the disruptions were due to content-related challenges in certain locations, beyond its direct control. The company also noted that several shows were cancelled because regional language versions of the film were not delivered on time by the production side. While Hindi screenings have now begun, regional versions are still awaited.
