GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India has approved the establishment of four auxiliary polling stations in Assam in preparation for the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections.
The newly approved auxiliary polling stations will be set up across four districts—Tinsukia, Goalpara, Biswanath, and Sribhumi—with one station allocated to each district.
The move comes in response to proposals submitted by state authorities, highlighting that several polling stations in these areas had exceeded the voter capacity limits set by the poll body. To ensure smoother voting and better management of voter turnout, the ECI approved the setting up of additional facilities.
Meanwhile, the Commission has also permitted the relocation of a polling station under the Jonai Assembly Constituency in Assam. Polling Station No. 4 at Kabu Sivaguri Lower Primary School will now be shifted to No. 4 Silai M.E. School. The decision has been taken citing natural factors and to improve accessibility and convenience for voters.
The changes are part of broader efforts to streamline the electoral process and enhance voter experience ahead of the April 9 polls.
