GUWAHATI: The process of commissioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with candidate details for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections has been completed across all 126 constituencies in the state.
The exercise was conducted between March 31 and April 4 at locations designated by respective District Election Officers. Officials confirmed that the process was carried out in the presence of contesting candidates or their authorised representatives to ensure transparency and strict compliance with established guidelines.
Technical support during the commissioning process was provided by engineers and personnel from Electronics Corporation of India Ltd. (ECIL), who oversaw the configuration and functioning of the machines to ensure accuracy and reliability.
In total, 41,320 Ballot Units (BU), 43,975 Control Units (CU), and 43,997 VVPATs have been readied for deployment. These figures include reserve units that may be used if required across the state’s 31,490 polling stations.
With the completion of this phase, election authorities have taken a significant step forward in ensuring a smooth, free, and fair electoral process in Assam.
