GUWAHATI: A traffic snarl in Guwahati's Athgaon area on Tuesday, December 30, afternoon caused severe inconvenience to daily commuters and motorists.
Traffic congestion was witnessed right from the Athgaon bridge, with vehicles moving at a painfully slow pace, leading to long delays.

Commuters were stranded for extended periods as long queues of vehicles piled up on the stretch. The situation caused frustration among road users, especially those dependent on timely travel for work and deliveries.
A food delivery executive, Rakesh, expressed concern over the situation. Speaking to GPlus, he said, “I have to deliver food to customers. I already got a few minutes late for delivery. What if the customer rejects the order? Who would bear the loss?”.His concern echoed the plight of several delivery workers and office-goers caught in the traffic mess.
When contacted, an officer from the Bharalumukh Traffic Police said that efforts were being made to manage the situation. "Our officers are trying their best to manage the traffic in the area. However, commuters often get impatient and end up creating chaos on the road,” the officer stated.
However, the ground reality appeared to contradict the official claim. At the time of reporting, no traffic personnel were present near the busy Vishwaratna Hotel junction, one of the key points requiring regulation. The absence of traffic police further aggravated the congestion, with vehicles attempting to navigate through the junction without supervision.
Regular commuters have urged authorities to ensure better traffic management, especially during peak hours, to prevent recurring congestion in the Athgaon area.
