The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology and GI Oncology led by Dr Digvijoy Sarma and Dr Saikat Mallik recently performed major complex surgeries successfully at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital in Guwahati.

A 45-year-old male from Arunachal presented with advanced gastric cancer with limited peritoneal metastases (PCI<6).

After neoadjuvant chemotherapy, he underwent radical gastrectomy with cytoreductive surgery (3/4 of stomach and other tumor tissues removed) with HIPEC (intraperitoneal chemotherapy).

A 40-year-old female from Manipur with cancer of the Colon which had spread to her liver underwent single-stage colon and liver resection successfully.

Another 45-year-old male from West Bengal whose esophagus and stomach were scarred due to acid ingestion was referred here for further treatment.

He was on tube feeding for 1 year. The Surgeons performed a rare surgery called colonic interposition where the large intestine was used to replace the esophagus to restore the gut continuity enabling the patient to eat again through the mouth.

Anaesthesia team comprised of Dr Imdadul Hussain, Dr Swapnil Verma, Dr Dhiman, Dr Kunal, Dr Abhijit, Dr Surabhi, Dr Bijoy, and Dr Mrinal. All these patients have recovered well.
