GUWAHATI: A man presumed dead and buried by his family members has returned home alive in Assam's Charaideo district on Monday, April 20, leaving the residents in a state of shock.

The incident came to light after police handed over an unclaimed body from the Charaideo District Civil Hospital morgue to a local family on Sunday, April 19, identifying it as Bijoy Kurmi, a resident of Ward No. 12 in Sonari town.
His elder brother Binod Kurmi, along with neighbours, conducted the last rites in accordance with customary practices the same day. The family then took the body to the banks of the Taukaka River in Sonari’s Borahi Tea Estate, where it was buried.
Speaking to GPlus, an official from Sonari Police Station said that Bijoy Kurmi reappeared at his residence nearly 24 hours later, reportedly in normal condition, leaving residents and family members stunned.
The identity of the body that was cremated remains unknown. An investigation is expected as the incident continues to generate confusion and concern in the area.
