Rana's Impressive Five-Wicket Performance
In a remarkable display of bowling, Nahid Rana, the young speedster from Bangladesh, showcased his talent at Dhaka's Shere Bangla Stadium on Wednesday.
He played a crucial role in bowling out Pakistan for a mere 114 runs during the first match of a three-game ODI series. This match marked Rana's first five-wicket haul in his ODI career.
Choosing to bowl first, the team led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz began with Taskin Ahmed. Pakistan's innings commenced with debutants Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat at the crease.
The opening pair managed to score 41 runs before Rana struck, dismissing Farhan in the 10th over. Farhan, who was the top scorer in the recent T20 World Cup, contributed 27 runs off 38 balls, including four boundaries, in his first ODI appearance.
Shamyl Hussain, another debutant, joined Sadaqat, but the pressure mounted quickly. Rana capitalized on this and sent Hussain back to the pavilion in his next over, with Hussain scoring just four runs.
Rana continued his impressive performance by dismissing Sadaqat in the 14th over, who managed to score 18 runs off 28 balls before being caught by Saif Hassan.
The partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha yielded only nine runs before Rana caught Rizwan behind the stumps for 10 runs. Agha followed suit shortly after, falling victim to Rana's bowling, completing his five-wicket haul within just 18 overs.
Ashraf's Lone Fight Amidst Team Collapse
As wickets continued to tumble, Faheem Ashraf emerged as a lone fighter, hitting boundaries while others fell around him. Another debutant, Abdul Samad, was dismissed without scoring.
Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi managed to hit a boundary but was dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz through LBW.
Taskin Ahmed took out Mohammad Wasim Jr for a duck, and Mustafizur Rahman claimed the final wicket of Ashraf, leaving Pakistan with a dismal total of 114 runs. Ashraf managed to score 32 runs for the last wicket alongside Abrar Ahmed, which helped Pakistan surpass the 100-run mark.
While Miraz took three wickets, it was Nahid Rana's exceptional bowling that truly dismantled the Pakistani batting order.
Bangladesh now requires 115 runs to secure victory and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
