NewJeans members faced a frightening privacy breach in the last days of February 2026. The leaked video allegedly featured three members of NewJeans, Hanni, Hyein, and Haerin practicing in a dance studio.
Now, the identity of the person who supposedly leaked the video has come out. Read on for more details about the CCTV leak and how fans reacted to the breach.
Over the last February weekend, a video with three NewJeans girls started doing the rounds on a Chinese social networking site, and later X (Twitter). Reportedly, it was first seen on February 28, 2026. Soon, netizens discovered that it wasn't a random practice video but taken from the CCTV recordings of a private dance studio.
Concerned about the major security breach, fans reached out to the studio. The owner (or manager) denied their staff's involvement. The studio insisted it wasn't responsible, and fans were very worried about the lack of accountability.
Recently, the studio (allegedly Base Studio, London) released a statement in direct contradiction of this. According to their Instagram story, the breach occurred on their end. An intern went against company policy and released a private video online.
This angered fans who called put the hypocrisy of the studio, who failed to take responsibility and attempted to pass off the blame to someone else. They also were surprised that HYBE could not protect the NewJeans members. It concerned the fans, especially in the midst of their lawsuit.
Additionally, some fans supposedly found that the account that leaked the CCTV footage was located in South Korea. They have called out the discrepancies in the official statements and actual happenings, but no one seems to have responded as of yet.
Apart from the privacy concerns, netizens have been speculating about the meaning of just three members (aka 3H, that is, Hanni, Hyein, and Haerin) being in the leaked dance practice video. Some say this confirms the fact that the group will be going ahead as a trio. Others are not so sure. Most seem to be concerned about the privacy breach. Additionally, they said that the members (of which Hanni is still a minor) always seem to get the short end of the stick.
HYBE's statement on the privacy breach and leaked CCTV video is awaited. Meanwhile, the ongoing lawsuits between Min Hee Jin (former ADOR CEO) and HYBE Corp. took a surprising turn as the producer offered to forgo the money awarded by the court. The caveat was that the corporation withdraw all legal proceedings.
