JP Nadda, Dr. Harsh Vardhan lay wreaths on Jaitley's mortal remains

New Delhi, Aug. 24 (HS): Following the shocking demise of former Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley today, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Working President JP Nadda and Union Health minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Saturday laid wreaths on the mortal remains of the late BJP stalwart on behalf of party president Amit Shah and Prime minister Narendra Modi respectively. Earlier today, BJP working President confirmed mortal remains of Jaitley would be cremated in Bodh Nigam Ghat tomorrow. On Sunday morning, Jaitley's body would be taken to the BJP headquarters where leaders across party spectrum would pay their last respects to the late leader.

Earlier today, mortal remains of Jaitley were being taken to his Kailash Colony residence from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi where he breathed his last few hours earlier today. Several leaders across political spectrum expressed their condolences to the senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart today after passing away today at Delhi's AIIMS hospital.

Prime minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief at the demise of the BJP stalwart. Apart from the prime minister, Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi, BJP President Amit Shah, BJP working President JP Nadda, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President (V-P) Venkaiah Naidu, former PM Manmohan Singh, BJP national general secretary, Ram Madhav, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, Defence minister Rajnath Singh, West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot etc paid their last tributes to the late BJP leader Arun Jaitley.

PM Modi tweeted, "Arun Jaitley was a political giant, towering intellectual and a legal luminary. He was am articulate leader who made a lasting contribution to India. His passing away is saddening". The prime minister spoke of meeting wife and son of Jaitley to express his condolences on the latter's death, during which they insisted Modi not to cancel his current foreign tours.

Expressing her grief over the untimely demise of Jaitley, Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi said," Jaitley had a long innings as a public figure, parliamentarian and minister and his contributions to public life will forever be remembered".

It is noteworthy that, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, 66 passed away on Saturday at New Delhi's AIIMS. He was admitted to the AIIMS earlier this month after he complained of restlessness after being placed under observation at the hospital's Cardio-Neuro-Centre.

Several BJP leaders including PM Modi, BJP president Amit Shah among other top Congress leaders continued to visit Jaitley after he was kept on life-support.
